Sustainability

Our Cornish daffodils are produced on two Mixed Farms.  They follow eight years of grazing by sheep at Fentongollan, and seven-eight years of cereals and brassicas at Carwin. There are thus no bulb-related diseases on such ground.

After harvest, bulbs are left to dry in the Cornish sunshine when possible, to be collected manually prior to storage and delivery.

Road miles are involved in delivery.  However, we use a haulier with local and national depots.  In this way he can operate with multi-collections, multi-drops and back loads, thereby maximising use of fuel.

Daffodils are the most sustainable of bulbs, as they improve and multiply year on year, unlike some bedding bulbs which spend their energy with one year’s growth.

Daffodils bulbs provide natural regeneration with a constant flowering capacity.

As Mixed Farms, both Fentongollan and Carwin are members of the Assured Produce Scheme (www.assuredproduce.co.uk) and have to pass stringent environmental conditions annually.  Fentongollan and Carwin are members of FWAG (Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group).   Carwin Farm is a member of L.E.A.F. (Linking Environment & Farming  www.leaf.org).

Traceability -  Bulbs from Fentongollan and Carwin can be traced right back to the field where they were grown.
