The optimum time for planting bulbs is during September. However they can be successfully planted much later than this with very little effect to the spring display.
Daffodil bulbs are normally available in the sizes 10/12; 12/14 and 14/16. For best results for planting in beds it is recommended that the 12/14 or 14/16 sizes are used. Larger bulbs will produce stronger flowers.
For best effect with formal planting, bulbs should be renewed after two years to avoid overcrowding as the bulbs multiply. They will continue to flower for many more if left to naturalise. For bed planting, the bulbs can be lifted each year in order to replant with bedding plants.
Lifting commences in mid June and the bulbs are left to dry for five to six days in the field. They are then picked up from the field, cleaned, inspected, graded and cured in ventilated stores prior to delivery.
