| The Cornish Bulb Growers
Ltd. (trading as Cornish King Bulb Growers) was formed in
2000 to enable the growers to market their own high quality
daffodil bulbs directly to the customer.
The group consists of three experienced
growers, who farm between Truro and Land's End. All three
growers are members of F.W.A.G (Farming and Wildlife Advisory
Group); and of the Farm Assured Produce Scheme.
Daffodil growing is an historic crop in
Cornwall, where the mild climate has resulted in the bulbs
having a reputation for vigour, early flowering, quality
and colour. This has led to Cornwall becoming one of the
major production areas for daffodils and narcissi in the
world. The crop provides local employment in an area of high
unemployment. It forms an integral part of mixed farming,
maintaining hedgerows and headland habitats. A national
haulier with a local depot is used providing a multi-drop
service with careful route-planning and back-loads for efficient
fuel usage.
Our growers include:
Fentongollan Farm
The Hosking family have farmed at Fentongollan
since 1883. The main business activities are the production
of daffodils, brassica plants, cereals, sheep and cattle.
60 hectares (150 acres) of daffodils are grown, with an
extensive range of over 100 varieties that flower from January
to April, for both cut flower production and bulb sales for
specialist garden planting.
J.H. Richards & Sons
This is a family partnership which formed
back in the 1930's. The daffodil business currently consists
of eight main cropping varieties along with 16 specialist
varieties. The daffodil crop covers a total of 60 hectares
(150 acres), which are predominantly early flowering varieties
before mid February.

the early 1900's. The main enterprises are crisping potatoes,
